FTR Player 5.4 - Non Responsive Interface

Posted in FTR, FTR Problem Resolution by admin on August 17, 2010 No Comments yet

Recently I have had a string of customers who have said that the FTR Player 5.4.x Interface freezes after you load the audio. here is one such person with this issue.

“The FTR Player 5.4.1 appears to install properly, audio loads and will begin play, but then player controls do not respond.
The volume sliders don’t move, time/seconds do not advance, track lights don’t work, and can’t move cursors or use arrows to adjust times.
(not a switching to compact mode issue.)

FTR PlayerPlus2.2 was running stable on this machine (and Log Notes 2.2) playing same FTR Gold recorded audio. 5.4.1 was uninstalled, and re-installed a couple times – complete with registry edits to remove FTR.
File has been re-downloaded in case first was corrupt, re-installed, same problem.Checked log for app errors…none.”

Here are a couple of potential solutions to this problem. Note: each of these solutions has worked for some and have not worked with others this is meant for possible solutions.

Solution 1.

Uninstall the FTR Player, clean the registry and re-install the software using the following steps. WARNING: editing the registry can have very dire consequences be sure you creat a registry backup before continuing.

1. Go into Add/Remove Programs and remove all FTR Programs.
2. Next go into the Registry and remove HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\FTR and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\FTR
3. Go to your C:\ Drive and remove C:\FTR Settings and go into the Program Files and remove C:\Program Files\FTR
4. Delete anything in C:\WINDOWS\assembly with FTR at the front
5. Reboot the PC
6. Redownload the 5.4.1 player and reinstall

To remove from the Registry:

Click on START
Click on RUN
Type
REGEDIT
Click on the plus sign next to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Click on the plus sign next to
SOFTWARE Folder
RIGHT click on the FTR Folder and choose Delete and yes.
Click on the plus sign next to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Click on the plus sign next to
SOFTWARE Folder
RIGHT click on the FTR Folder and choose Delete and yes.
Close the Registry Editor

Solution 2.

Disable Video Acceleration. To do this…

Right click on your desktop and click ‘Properties’
Click on the ‘Settings’ tab
Click the ‘Advanced’ button
Click the ‘Troubleshoot’ tab
Set Video Acceleration to None

Solution 3

Make sure that DirectX, Windows Media Player and your video drivers are all up to date.

And Finaly Solution 4

disable Microsoft’s IntelliPoint mouse driver, and use only a generic mouse driver  instead. There has also been a known Issue with Logitech mouse and keyboard drivers and companion software.

FTR Player 5.4 Interface Is Frozen

Posted in FTR, FTR Problem Resolution by admin on July 29, 2010 No Comments yet

We recently had a customer who installed the FTR Player 5.4 and had some issues with the interface freezing up. Here is how he described the problem and the solution that was given hope this helps anyone who is having the same issue.

The FTR Player 5.4.1 appears to install properly, audio loads and will begin play, but then player controls do not respond.

File has been re-downloaded in case first was corrupt, re-installed, same problem. Checked log for app errors…none.

Computer: Intel Dual Core, E8400 @ 3.00GHz, with 3.21 GB of RAM.
Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3

And now the solution that worked in this case.

I would advise that you completely remove the old version before upgrading to the new. Just doing a add/remove or running the new install and allowing it to remove isnt enough, lets go a few more steps.

My suggestion would be:

1. Go into Add/Remove Programs and remove all FTR Programs.
2. Next go into the Registry and remove HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\FTR and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\FTR
3. Go to your C:\ Drive and remove C:\FTR Settings and go into the Program Files and remove C:\Program Files\FTR
4. Delete anything in C:\WINDOWS\assembly with FTR at the front
5. Reboot the PC
6. Redownload the 5.4.1 player and reinstall

To remove from the Registry:

Click on START
Click on RUN
Type
REGEDIT
Click on the plus sign next to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Click on the plus sign next to
SOFTWARE Folder
RIGHT click on the FTR Folder and choose Delete and yes.
Click on the plus sign next to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Click on the plus sign next to
SOFTWARE Folder
RIGHT click on the FTR Folder and choose Delete and yes.
Close the Registry Editor

Also, you will need to ensure that you have the latest Windows Media Player and DirectX installed on your computer. I would ensure that your computer has at least WMP 9 and DirectX 9.0c, to determine version of WMP, open WMP and then go to Help and the About WMP, this will tell you the version. To determine DirectX, click on start, then go to run and then type dxdiag and hit ok. A DirectX diagnostic will come up and about ¾ the way down will tell you the version. If either of these does not meet the requirements, you can go to www.microsoft.com and update it.

Also, I would go to the manufacturer of your computer (Dell, Gateway, HP, etc) and plug in your model number and ensure that you have all the latest drivers and BIOS for your computer, especially the video and sound cards. Also I would do a Windows Update until there are no more available updates left for your PC.

I hope this helps anyone having this issue as always this is just a suggested solution if the problem persists contact your FTR Reseller or FTR Technical Support. This is just a suggestion that worked in this case.

FTR Minutes Digital Recorder

Posted in FTR by admin on May 27, 2009 No Comments yet

FTR Minutes is a software solution that offers clerks an easy and efficient way to record proceedings of meetings while simultaneously creating minutes. Until now, many clerks have produced meeting minutes by recording the meeting using a cassette tape recorder while taking notes by hand. Then, they create the minutes by referring to the notes and listening to the tape.

With FTR Minutes, a clerk can record meetings (with either TheRecord Recorder 2X software recorder or with various approved third-party portable digital recorders*) while taking notes in Microsoft® Word. Each note automatically generates a time-stamp with a dynamic hyperlink to the related audio. When the meeting is over, the clerk can click on each link, listen to the proceeding, and convert meeting notes into a set of minutes. FTR MinuteMaker also includes “shortcut” features to automatically create speaker lists, take attendance and record voting results
