Olympus Player Pro 5.0.10 And The Blackberry

In today’s world the Blackberry has become an almost staple among the business, legal and medical professional. And as anyone who uses these smart phones know you can also use the Blackberry for a digital dictation machine.

In the past this has been a problem because while you could use the Blackberry for this purpose there were very few if any dictation and transcription software’s on the market that could read the (.amr) file format that the Blackberry uses to create the voice files. That has now changed.

Olympus who has become one of the most recognizable names in the digital dictation market place has released its latest version of its professional dictation and transcription software. The Player Pro v. 5.0.10.

This latest release from Olympus has the added functionality of being able to read the (.amr) file format. While this ability is constantly being improved in the Dictation and Transcription Modules in order to play the .amr files, those files have to be downloaded from email and imported to the Dictation or transcription software manually.

At current time it may take one extra step than usual but for those who are looking for an agressive and professional transcription method for the blackberry you can’t the new Olympus Player Pro.

DSS to DS2 conversion

I recently had a customer who is running a Olympus DS-5000 and had an issue with the machine after it had been set to DSS file format reverting to DS2. The solution to this is as follows. In the dictation module 5.x go to tools -> options -> device tab under the Administrative settings go to recording. with the machine plugged in select DSS Classic and hit update this will change the file format back to DSS. If you have files that are in DS2 and need to convert them to DSS. Right click the file in the dictation module and select convert file. select DSS from the drop down and click OK this will convert existing DS2 to DSS.

Exporting Settings In Player Pro V.5

Another Question I recived is about exporting settings on the Olympus Player Pro V.5 I hope this helps anyone with this same question.

Question: When using the Olympus DSS Player Pro Release 5, can you export your hardware & software settings from one PC to another?

Yes, with the Olympus DSS Player Pro Release 5, you can export both your software & hardware settings from one computer to another.

How to export hardware settings:

You must have the Device Customization Program installed, it can be found on the installation CD. Go to Start > All Programs > Olympus Manager Tool > Device Customization Program.

The Device Customization Program will open, configure your Olympus digital voice recorder as you see fit, then select Export.

How to export software settings:

You will have to grab the profile from the PC that has Olympus configured. You will find the program by going to C:\Documents and Settings\[user name]\Application Data\Olympus\DSSPlayerProR5.

There, you will find three XML files, these are your profiles files. Grab the one with your user name. Note: if you have a different login name on the second computer, you will need to rename this XML file to match the destination PC.

The “mailrecv” XML file contains information regarding any audio files you’ve sent through the DSS Player Pro software. The “Preference” XML file contains settings regarding changes made to the look and feel of your software. Copy this file if you have resized windows, etc.

I hope this helps and enjoy

Olympus Player Pro 4 Support Question

I have recieved a few calls from customers with a problem when uninstalling and reinstalling the Olympus Player Pro v. 4.x so for the benefit of all I will answer it here as well.
